About the Faculty

Faculty of Art Studies

The Faculty of Art Studies is composed of two main research units: Institute of Art History and Institute of Musicology. Although established only in 2019, it builds on a long and rich tradition. Art history has been present at the University since its foundation in 1919, whereas musicology since 1922. For more than a century, both disciplines, with the power of minds of their outstanding representatives, have contributed significantly to excellent academic reputation of Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU).

The Faculty conducts research in the field of history and theory of architecture, fine arts, and music. It also offers first and second-degree studies in art history and musicology, providing students with a wide range of courses of different profiles and levels of advancement, offering field trips, internships and scholarships.

The Academic Council of the Art Studies is entitled to confer a doctoral degree and a degree of habilitated doctor of humanities in the discipline of art studies.

The Faculty of Art Studies, together with five other faculties, is a part of the Field School – the School of Humanities of AMU.

Main Office of the Faculty of Art Studies is located in Collegium Novum at 4 Niepodległości Ave., room 316A whereas the Institute of Art History occupies the fourth floor of Building A of Collegium Novum. The Institute of Musicology is located in Collegium Historicum at 7 University of Poznań Street.
