Michał Mencfel

Biography:

Michał Mencfel is an art historian and professor at the Institute of Art History in the Department of the History of Modern Art.

His research primarily focuses on the history of collections and art patronage from the early modern period to the early 20th century. He also delves into the history and theory of modern art, the history and iconography of science, and the culture of the European aristocracy in the 19th century.

He has been recognized for his scholarly contributions with numerous awards and honors. He was a scholarship holder of Studienstuftung des deutschen Volkes (2002-2003), Dr. Günther Findel-Stiftung (2004 and 2006), Geisteswissenschaflitches Zentrum Geschichte und Kultur Ostmitteleuropas in Leipzig (2008), Herzog-August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel (2010), Brzezie Lanckoroński Foundation (2012, 2019 and 2024), Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin (2018). He was also nominated for the Tadeusz Kotarbiński Prize of the First Rector of the University of Łódź (2017). He was the winner of the 2nd prize of the National Centre of Culture for the best doctoral thesis in the field of cultural sciences (2007), the Prof. Jerzy Skowronek Prize (2017), the Józef Łukaszewicz Prize (2017), and the Prize of the Poznań Societyfor the Advancement of Arts and Sciences for the Best Publication on Greater Poland in 2019.
